5 Ways To Make Your Halloween Awesome
I love everything about Halloween. The fall weather, the movies on tv, the themed tv shows, and especially planning out my costume for when I take the kids out trick or treating! I am constantly trying to find new ways to celebrate the spirit of the season and I am going to share with you 5 ways we make our Halloween awesome!
1. FIND A HAUNTED HOUSE
Every year there are charities, and businesses that put on really neat Haunted Houses. I am what you might call a “Haunted House junkie”. Is that a thing? The second the fall season comes upon us every year I am searching the internet for Haunted Houses put on by different places in our community. The best part is that you can often find kid friendly versions and also for the brave of heart, Scary Adult versions.
They are a fun way to celebrate the season and often raise money for local charities. What’s not to love?
2. GO TO/HOST A PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT
In recent years I have noticed Pumpkin carving nights popping up around my city. Grab your pumpkins, print out an awesome design (or design it yourself) and head to, or host your own pumpkin carving party. It is a fun way to meet people, hang out with you friends, and spend good quality time with your family while creating your pumpkin masterpieces!
The local firehall puts one on and the kids love getting inspiration for their creations from what other people at the party are doing!
3. SKIP THE STORE COSTUME AND MAKE YOUR OWN!
A couple of years ago my Son decided he wanted to be Fix it Felix Jr. from Disney’s Wreck it Ralph. I searched high and low and couldn’t find a single store online selling the costume.
We began to piece the costume together by visiting various thrift stores, and figuring out unique ways to make the costume work. It was an incredible experience that provided many hours of searching and working creatively with my son.
In the end we had an amazing costume and it guaranteed that no other kid on the block had the same costume.
4. MAKE A THEMED HALLOWEEN TREAT
I could lose myself for hours on Pinterest searching out different ideas for spooky halloween treats. Witch finger cookies, buried alive cupcakes, Jello worms, or Tombstone pudding? Pick your poison.
What I love about making halloween treats is it provides an awesome night for you to spend some quality time with the kids. They love helping you put together these ghoulish treats and I promise you they will remember doing it for the rest of their lives.
5. MAKE A HALLOWEEN YARD
Now this one has been on my bucket list for many many years. There are entire message boards devoted to creating your halloween yard to add that extra fun to your Halloween season. Low rising fog machines, ghosts that appear to float through the yard, ghouls that pop out from behind tombstones, all accompanied by creepy halloween music. What’s not to love?
This can be something that you work on year after year, constantly adding pieces as you go to make it perfect. My kids love helping me plan out our future halloween yard and it will be something the neighbours’ kids will remember for the rest of their lives.
Have fun this Halloween and don’t forget to stay safe!
