A Winter In Our Skechers + New Years Giveaway!

New Year, new…shoe? Yup, Skechers has once again come out with some great shoes to get started on the New Year on the right foot…er shoe. This year, I’ve decided to make my Skechers GoWalks part of my New Years Resolution! I want to be more active so that I can have more energy when playing with the kids. My goal is to use them every day and go for at least a brisk walk, hopefully leading up to a jog or run later this year.

Luckily, this winter, we had the opportunity to be active while visiting family in Alberta! We had a ton of fun playing in the snow, tobogganing, skiing and building snowmen! Here’s a look at some of the boots and shoes we wore over the past couple of months;

Over the holidays, I got to spend some time in the snow on our trip to Alberta so I was so happy to have the Revine- Hopkin calf-height boots to keep my feet nice and warm with its fully lined Thinsulate insulation and a temperature rated to -20F. I liked them so much that I even got an extra pair to share with fellow dad blogger, Buzz Bishop. You can check us out wearing them tobogganing in this video:

Another great casual insulated boot is the slip-on ankle height Revine Boot. It is waterproof and has a flexible rubber high traction all terrain outsole. I find them perfect for slipping on quickly and they keep my feet warm and dry when out walking the dog and playing with the kids. Check them out on Skechers.com

If you need a boot to keep your feet warm and dry, but don’t need a full snow boot, then you definitely need to try the Bomags- Calder boot. It is a waterproof casual hiking boot with vented side panel design for added breathability. It even has a contoured removable cushioned comfort insole and of course a shock absorbing lightweight midsole making it so comfortable! I wore these when heading to Sunshine Resort in Banff Albera! As much as wish I could play outside with the kids all the time, I still have to run my business. I really love Skecher’s Mark Nason line for business wear, but also to dress up jeans! As a dad, I don’t always feel stylish, but I do when I’m wearing my Mark Nason Rangpuk boots! Not only does it look great with a smooth oiled leather upper and a suede heel panel, it is also has a Memory Foam Lux cushioned comfort insole. I wore these in my video interview with Justin Connors – coming soon!

Another unique boot from the Mark Nason line is the Finley. I almost feel like I need to run out and buy a motorbike to go with these boots! I’ll admit this normally would not be something I would wear, but I couldn’t resist the leather upper, squared toe front and harness straps with metal stud and grommet detailing. I can’t help but walk with more confidence in these boots!

Even though it’s winter, it isn’t practical to wear boots all the time, so I still need a comfortable yet stylish casual shoe for daily wear. For years I have been a huge fan of the Citywalk- Malton. I love the look of the lace up oxford design, but mostly I love how comfortable they are. They have soft fabric lining, Memory Foam and a shock absorbing low profile midsole. Most importantly though, they are designed with a rubber ‘cleat’ sole that give me great traction. I wore these shoes in my review of the KidCo HearthGate! Check out the video here;

If you are looking for a shoe to help you with a New Years resolution of getting into shape, then you definitely need to give the GO-Stoic shoe a try. This ultra light shoe has Goga Mat insoles with a high rebound cushioning and GOimpulse sensors on the outsole for shock absorbing. Best of all they have Agion insoles that inhibits odour and wicks away moisture. With all these features, it really makes it a great shoe for being active. I wore these shoes at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and found them REALLY comfortable! After a full day on the convention centre floor, my feet surprisingly didn’t hurt when I got back to the hotel at night. Check out the two videos from the show:

Finally, the last shoe I tried was the casual Diameter- Nerves slip on loafer. These are my go-to “Dad” shoes. With my hands always full carrying a toddler, backpacks or whatever the kids insist they can’t leave the home without, I really appreciate not having to worry about laces coming untied. As with all Skechers shoes, they’re comfortable and look great with a contrast coloured leather and canvas side stripe detail.

My wife needed a pair of boots to keep her feet warm and dry while playing in the snow and the Highlanders Cottontail was perfect! It has Hydroguard waterproof construction and Thinsulate insulation rated to -25F. Her favourite feature was that it has a fabric sock lining and fits snuggly so that snow does not get inside the boot.

There were many different styles of girl’s boots that my daughter had a tough time choosing. First she tried the Highlanders Safari Glitz Snow Boot, because she loves the look of the pink plaid fabric. As a parent I loved that it has a mudguard for water resistance and that the gussetted tongue keeps out the wind.

Secondly, my daughter couldn’t resist the Twinkle Toes: Glamslam-Runaway Dreamer boot. There are so many fun features to this boot. Not only do the toes have sequin accents that blink, but they are so soft and fuzzy. They also look like a knitted sweater with pom-pom accents.

My eldest son really loves runners, so he wanted to try the Skech-Air. Since he is still hasn’t mastered tying his shoes, I love that he can quickly do up his shoes with the zigzag strap. Since he is sensitive to textures and fabrics, he will actually wear these shoes because they have a soft fabric show lining and side panels for cooling effect. The soles also have 17 air cushioned pods for flexibility and support.

Skechers really knows how to make shoes fun, and the Hot Lights: Damager II-Adventure Slip on Shoe is definitely a hit in our house! These sneakers have a colour changing headlight and compass built right in. My son says he is a traveller going on adventures every time he puts these on.

With our toddler rapidly growing, keeping up with shoes that fit is always a challenge. We decided to try out the Rive sneaker because it has an adjustable side hook and loop closure and stretch laced front panel so we can easily slip his wiggling feet in and out.

Ok, we couldn’t resist getting our toddler a pair of Star Wars Cayden- Starfighter shoes! Even if you aren’t a fan of Star Wars, these high tops with the Millennium Falcon being chased by Imperial TIE Fighters are awesome! They not only look really cool, but they are practical with a side zipper for easy access and comfortable with the memory foam insoles.
