Holiday Gift Ideas For Dad + Giveaways!

The TopDaddies Holiday Gift Guide

Well it’s that time of year again, and of course time for another holiday gift guide. Throughout the year we’ve had the opportunity to try out a variety of different products for dads, families and kids! We’ve decided to put together a list of some of our favourites! The guide is divided into five sections;

  • Fashion Gifts For Dad
  • Gifts For Dads & Moms With Babies
  • Tech & Toys for Dads & Moms
  • Toys For Kids

Something for every dad, the following are just a few of the jackets and shoes that I love!

Columbia Barlow Pass 550 TurboDown Winter Jacket

The Columbia Barlow Pass 550 TurboDown jacket is by far my most favourite winter jacket that I’ve ever had. It has a great casual but classy look. With its thermal reflective lining and TurboDown insulation, it is also really warm! It’s also waterproof, which is great for Vancouver weather, yet warm enough for when we head to the mountains. I really like how many pockets it has as well, because I tend to carry a bunch of things when I’m out with the kids!

Skechers Mark Nason Burwood Boot

I’ve the opportunity to try out a lot of Skechers shoes this year, and while I love them all, my favourite has to be the Mark Nason Burwood Boot. With nice smooth oiled leather and soft distressed suede, it has a casual but classy look that I can wear to dress up jeans, but also for a business casual look. It’s also really comfortable with its memory foam insole.

Skechers Arcade Chat Memory Shoes

I really love the look of the Skechers Arcade Chat Memory shoes! For years my wife tried to get me to wear a style like these, but I never found ones that were comfortable – until I tried the Skechers Arcade Chat shoes. The ones I’ve tried from other brands had a hard insole that provided almost no support or comfort, however the Arcades have a gel infused memory foam insole that makes them really comfortable to wear! In fact, these are now my go-to casual shoes. They’re available in three different colours – black, gray and navy.

Skechers GoWalk 3 FitKnit Sneakers

One of my goals is to get out and be a little more physically active, but I have to be honest… I hate exercising! I’m not a big fan of going for walks or runs, but after trying out the Skechers GoWalk 3 FitKnit Sneakers, I actually have started doing a bit of walking. These shoes are ridiculously light and have so much technology in its design that make it incredibly comfortable. The best way to describe the feeling is that they’re cushioned and squishy, actually making me want to go out for walks or runs! I won’t go into details on all the different technology and materials that make them so squishy, but seriously – go see the list in the details section here:

Columbia HeatZone 1000 TurboDown Hooded Jacket & Men’s Jump Off Cargo Pant

With three kids, the last few years have been quite busy, and I haven’t had a chance to really go out the mountain to enjoy some skiing. This year, I’m excited to get back out on the hill with my new Columbia Heatzone 1000 Jacket and Jump Off Cargo Pant. This is the perfect gift for the dads on your list that love to play out in the snow. The jacket is seriously warm with a 900-fill, water-resistant goose down, a thermal reflective lining, and wave baffle construction that eliminates cold spots found in traditional down jackets. It also features a helmet-compatible hood, a ski pass pocket and the ability to keep you warm, even when wet.

If you are looking for a gift for a new or soon-to-be dad, we have found 3 products we fell in love with the past year.

Baby Bjorn Carrier One

There aren’t too many things sweeter than baby cuddles, and the Baby Bjorn is a great product that allows you to keep your baby close while still having your arms and hands free to multitask. As much as we would love to be able to sit and cuddle all day, the reality of parenthood is that we are always on the go. Whether it’s running errands or running after older siblings, we definitely needed a way to comfortably carry around our infants and toddlers. We have been big fans of Baby Bjorn since our daughter was born 8 years ago and are even bigger fans now with the new and improved carrier. There are so many things we love about this carrier. First of all we love that the new design has ergonomic leg positions and is safe for my baby’s hips. Another feature that is new is that it is now a 4-way front and back carrier. This means that I can use the carrier even longer than before, since you can use it right from birth all the way to 3 years old. Of course since we will be carrying toddlers in it and not just infants, it’s great to know that Baby Bjorn has added a waist belt and extra padded shoulder straps for comfort. If you are wanting to make this gift even better you can also purchase a removable and washable bib and a fleece cover to keep your baby warm and dry.

I love travelling with my kids and am always on the lookout for products that make travelling even just a little bit easier. The Kidco PeaPod is a lightweight portable pop-up travel bed that we took with us on day trips, camping and a long road trip and loved it! Check out our full review here:

KidCo GoPod

The Kidco GoPod is such a great product to have if you are tight on space or need a portable activity seat to take with you on the go. We got so much use out of the GoPod this summer and recommend it to everyone with a baby. Check out the full review:

Ok, I’ll admit it, I am a big kid at heart and love playing around with tech and toys probably as much or maybe even more than my kids. Here are a few gift ideas for the dads out there who love to technology and toys.

iRobot Looj

This might sound unbelievable, but I actually found a product that makes cleaning gutters, well fun. The iRobot Looj is a gutter cleaning robot that you drop in your gutter and “drive” it with a remote control. Check it out in our video review:

Motorola Talkabout T480 Emergency Two-Way Radios

Disasters can strike anywhere – floods, earthquakes, fires, etc, and it’s important to be prepared. Every family should have an emergency preparedness kit, one thing that we sometimes forget is having alternate communication and access to an FM radio in the event that the power goes out and cell phone towers are down. The Motorola T480 is designed to be left plugged in and ready in an easily accessible location. In the event of an emergency, you can get NOAA weather alerts, tune in to FM Radio where emergency information may be broadcast, and communicate with others that have a two way FRS or GMRS radio in your community. You’ll need to know the frequency of others to communicate with them, so it’s always a good idea to have an emergency plan with your community and neighbours as well. It also has a built-in flashlight that will automatically come on when the power goes out. We have two T480 radios in our house in different levels, and our kids know how to use them if we ever need to.

Motorola Talkabout T460 Two-Way Radios

Our family loves to go camping, traveling and just being outdoors. This year we’re going to be doing some skiing in a location where there isn’t very reliable cell phone service, so we’re bringing along some Motorola Talkabout T460 two-way radios! Not all of us will be skiing, so it’s a great way to keep the whole family connected while we’re doing different things. The T460’s have a maximum range of around 56 KM (35 miles) in line-of-sight or “mountain to valley” situations, around 9 KM (6 miles) on the water, and around 3 km (2 miles) in neighbourhoods. Actual range may vary depending on things like terrain, weather conditions, interference and obstructions. What we like about these radios is that they have nice clear sound, are durable and weatherproof, and also have 22 channels including NOAA weather channels and alerts, a hands-free option, and a built in flashlight which is perfect when camping. Plus, the kids love using two-way radios, and even if they’re just playing in the back yard, they’re a fun way to keep connected.

GoPro Hero4 Black

This summer, I had the opportunity to try out a GoPro Hero4 Black camera for the first time, and I absolutely love it! We took the camera with us traveling to all sorts of places including Legoland, Universal Studios Hollywood, San Francisco and even a Horse Carriage ride in Banff, Alberta! The GoPro Hero4 Black came in handy to capture so many amazing shots – both photo and video – that we wouldn’t have been able to capture with any other type of camera, leaving us with some unique footage of our family’s travels and adventures! Because it’s so small, it’s always easy to pack with you and with a couple of accessories like a waterproof case or clamp-style mount, you can attach the camera to things to get a unique perspective without having to hold it. The best part is that it is wi-fi enable which means you can preview your shot and control the camera from your smartphone. For example, we took a shot of us crossing the Golden Gate bridge on the top level of a double-decker tour bus. It was mounted to a seat, and we could enjoy the tour without having to hold the camera as it took some amazing footage of us during the ride! The quality of images is absolutely amazing, and the Hero4 Black gives you a bunch of options such as professional quality slow motion, time lapse, and even 4K video. I even used the camera to record an interview with famous dad blogger Charlie Capen on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios! Check out the video here: . You can also see some footage of me learning how to drive a tractor here:, and footage of us crossing the Golden Gate Bridge here:

There are so many more features and reasons why you might want to get dad a GoPro Hero4 Black this holiday, so make sure to check out GoPro’s website for a full list of features and uses.

We can’t forget about our kids this season, because without them, well we wouldn’t be parents. Here are a few of my kids’ favourite toys this season.

vTech KidiZoom Action Cams

I can’t tell you the amount of times I went into my camera roll on my phone to find dozens of pictures of the floor, ceiling, or eyeballs because my kids love taking pictures. Getting them their own cameras this summer was one of the best ideas ever! They had such a blast making their own videos and pictures and as a parent it was really neat to see the vacation from their perspective. Take a look at our full review:

Spy Gear Batman Ultimate Utility Belt

My 5 year-old loves to sneak around the house pretending to be a ninja or jump out and scare you when you least expect it. He is also a huge superhero fan, so the Spy Gear Batman Utility Belt was a big hit with him. The belt comes with 4 fun attachments. It comes with a Batman listener, (which our daughter thought was really cool to be able to eavesdrop on ‘adult’ conversations), Batman distractor, Batman tactical light and detachable motion alarm on the belt buckle.

Check out Spy Gear’s website for more information about the Batman Utility Belt:

Paw Patrol Mission – Chase

Our kids love watching Paw Patrol, so it was no surprise that they wanted Paw Patrol toys to play with. Paw Patrol Mission is actually an interactive toy that talks and moves as it gives instructions for your child to follow. There are actually over 130 different phrases that Chase says and when a mission is completed he will actually sing and dance. Our kids loved that it comes with a megaphone, searchlight and spring loaded net as well. Our toddler thinks it’s so funny when Chase falls asleep and starts to snore.

Check out Paw Patrol’s website for more information about the Mission Chase:

Meccano Space Quest

Meccano is a huge hit at our house because our kids love building things, especially if they get to use tools. Our son loves space so the Meccano Space Quest was very exciting. Not only can you build a rocket with a moving gantry, there are 14 other intergalactic models you can build as well. As a parent I love seeing the pride on their faces when they finish building a model.

cloud B -Twilight Buddies

As parents, we are always on the lookout for ways to get a little extra shut eye. cloud b has created a product designed to help your child feel more comfortable at night. When we first received the Twilight Buddies Palamino, my first thought was that it would be perfect for our infant, however it turns out our 5 year-old kept sneaking it to his bed and actually eased his fear of the dark. He loved that the pony was soft enough to cuddle like a stuffy, but projected actual star constellations onto the ceiling giving his room a soft glow in 3 different colours. I loved that it has a 45 minute timer so I didn’t have to worry about the light bothering his sleep or wasting batteries.
